In the post, Is Your Workplace Safe?, I emphasized the need to ensure that your workplace is not just a place for business transaction but a safe haven for your staff members and customers. I promised to share with you some tips on ensuring safety in your workplace.
Keeping that promise is the thrust of this post.
There are three keys for ensuring workplace safety I want to share with you and if you can master and implement them, you will be guaranteed of a safe workplace.
One of them is that you should….
Understand Health & Safety Measures
There are measures for ensuring safety at work and understanding them is about the primary step you have to take to ensure a safe workplace. Some of these measures include acquiring and installing safety equipment in strategic locations in your workplace, ensuring that wastes are properly disposed, providing proper ventilation for every office etc.
Many business owners don’t know these measures let alone implement them; that’s why as one who cares about the safety and health of your staff and customers, you should familiarize yourself with these measures.
Another is to…
Train Your Staff to Be Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Compliant
Ensuring a safe workplace is a collective responsibility of everyone in a workplace because workplace hazard can be triggered or controlled by just one person.
These hazardous circumstances can be evaded by ensuring that any member of your staff knows HSE measures and are groomed to apply them at any point in time.
Thus, another important key to ensuring workplace safety is ensuring that every member of your staff know HSE measures and are groomed to apply them. When they are properly trained by a professional a HSE training firm, they know what to they must do and/ or avoid in ensuring that your workplace is a safe for all and they are know how to control accidents that are probably triggered by another staff.
When you have done these, the next is…
Install HSE Equipment
The third key to ensuring workplace safety is installing necessary HSE equipment and structures.
You see, there are certain structures that are necessary to help prevent tampering with the health and safety of workers in a workplace. The most common is fire extinguisher; but that’s not all. There are many others which may not be very obvious such as caution sign post for wet tiled floors, fire blanket, among others.
So, get all the necessary equipment and build necessary structures required to ensure safety in your workplace.
My point?
The health and safety of your workplace is very important and you should ensure it by learning health and safety measures, training your staff members to be able to apply the measures and ensure that necessary structures and equipment are installed to ensure effective application of HSE measures.
